Through my travels I’ve realized that some of the best experiences have come from encounters with others--their stories, their experiences, their culture. It’s through these encounters that I felt motivated to connect and re-connect with people who have been bitten by the travel bug. Whether you’re a local traveler or a world traveler: POST, DISCUSS, SHARE & see what experiences you have in common with complete strangers, learn from their stories, and overall, just have fun!
Top 5 Favorite Places I've been:
ReplyDelete1. Hilo, Hawaii
2. Rome, Italy
3. St. Louis, Missouri
4. New Orleans, Louisiana
5. Australia
My top 5:
ReplyDelete1. Florence, Italy
2. Chamonix, France
3. Biarritz, France
4. The Vatican
5. Philadelphia
Okay, I'll chime in with a list of favorite places, but the order is not necessarily an accurate rating. And this is a list of places I have no definite plan of returning to, but would in a heartbeat if I had the chance.
ReplyDelete1. Hilo, Hawaii
2. Rome, Italy
3. London, England
4. St. Augustine, Florida
5. Knoxville, Tennessee
6. San Miguel de Allende, Mexico
7. Cambridge, England
8. Springfield, Illinois
9. Oak Park, Illinois
10.Burano, Venice, Italy
11.Colchester, England
12.Lake Maggiore, Italy
Oooo I forgot about springfield! I'm adding that to my list. A 5.5 if you will.
ReplyDeleteI'll allow it! Especially since I began this list with the full intention of leaving it at 5. And then 10. But at least 12 is an even number =)
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to Europe, but I have been to Jamaica, Guatemala, Peru, Argentina, and Chile-- and a lot of the U.S., including Alaska. So I guess my top five would be something like...
ReplyDelete7. Boston, Massachusetts. Love the history and the vibe, a cool combination of things-to-do and what's-the-rush.
6. the western U.S. Is this cheating? Everything from Colorado to the Grand Canyon. Our is indeed a beautiful nation.
5. Alaska. Walking though parts of it gives the feeling that you're the first person who's ever been there.
4. Chilean Patagonia. Lakes, mountains, glaciers, rivers, forests... miles and miles and miles of wilderness, untampered with and awe-inspiring.
3. Chiloe, an island of Chile where people still hold dear their indigenous beliefs and mythologies. Charming and eccentric. Slow and sunny in the summer... basically the stuff of dreams.
2. the Atacama Desert region of Chile, particularly Lake Tebinquinche (best sunset of my life) and the Reserva Nacional de Flamencos (flamingo reserve in the desert on a salt flat, ringed by volcanoes... pretty surreal). The whole region is the stuff magical realism is made of.
1. Machu Picchu (near Cusco, Peru)... absolutely magical.
I dont necessarily think that this is an easy topic...top 10 is pretty tough to do...but here it is (I think).
ReplyDelete10. Edinburgh, Scotland
9. South Haven, Michigan
8. Paris, France
7. San Diego, California
6. Heidelburg, Germany (underrated)
5. Salzburg, Austria
4. Madrid, Spain
3. Rome, Italy
2. Playa Mujeres, Cancun, Mexico
1. Anywhere in Ireland (mainly Galway, Mayo, Tipp or Kerry)
I completely understand why some people might look at this list and wonder if I had taken part in some illegal activity involving narcotics...but many of the places on this list have a family/firend aspect to them and I couldnt leave them out. I understand many people might totally disagree with this list, but I encourage everyone to visit these places if the opportunity shows itself. (thanks Mike)
